S.T. Urkachan tells how to get ready for fishing as soon as the first leaves appear on the trees in spring. He points out the seasonal change between fishing on the coast and on the rivers. Fish dishes are often prepared together with seasonal plants and sea animal products. He explains the migration cycle of fish along rivers. V.S. Jaganov also describes the seasonal fishing cycle and gives special attention to the catching of capelin fish in the spring on the coast, as well as their preliminary use as (dried) food for dog teams. After that, people go to the fishing grounds upstream around the village of Lesnaya, where they prepare dried fish stocks for the winter. Later in the fall, people fish on the upper parts of the rivers until they begin to freeze over. V.K.
