Hunting for the bearded seal at Lesnaya

An old fur boat (matev) is being restored, as this type of boat is rarely in use today. It is particularly well suited for navigation between the breaking ice floes in spring, where bearded seals are resting. Fur boats prove their usefulness especially when hitting sharp and hard ice edges because of their elasticity. Getting out and in of the boat is only possible with the help of an ice pick, which gives grip on the slippery ice. During the ice-free period, seals and bearded seals are hunted from the shore.
