Since their immigration to Kamchatka at the beginning of the 19th century, a compact Even population has formed in the Bystrinsky district. Through contacts with the Koryaks living there, the Evens have developed reindeer herding with larger herds into one of their main livelihoods in the last century. It provides not only meat products, but also important materials for their clothing. Reindeer are a frequent motif in their stories, songs and world view, as well as in their dances.
