The snow sheep is considered the favored hunting game for the indigenous population on Kamchatka. However, in many parts of the peninsula, its population has declined sharply in recent years due to poaching and hunting tourism. In the mountains around the Koryak settlement of Lesnaya, there are still enough of these difficult to track and trace animals for which hunters go hunting every autumn. Occasionally, bears are also shot, although despite their abundance, they rarely serve as food for various reasons. Fur trapping, on the other hand, has always played an important role. It was once used for tribute payments and later as a means of exchange for acquiring essential goods from traders. Today, it still provides necessary income for locals.
